Self-Supported Vi... One of the first initiatives of Virtually Educated is to model a tutor and mentor collaboration. The goals are to create: • an umbrella organization for tutors (volunteer and paid) and mentors • opportunities to serve as volunteer tutors • opportunities to serve as mentors • an infrastructure to virtually connect students to tutors • an infrastructure to virtually connect mentees to mentors • an infrastructure self-supported by paid tutoring services Through collaboration with organizations that can provide volunteers for tutoring services, students in desire of tutoring, mentors, individuals in desire of mentoring and professional tutors we’ll build an organization capable of satisfying the goals. Minimum commitment for volunteer tutors is 6 hours annually as follows: • 1 hour live tutoring via Internet and phone* • 30 minutes post tutoring notes • 30 minutes pre tutoring notes review • 2 hours tutoring preparation • 1 hour live tutoring quality control of another tutor’s session • 1 hour equipment check prior to live tutoring session * Phone connect may be through Internet via Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) Minimum commitment for mentors is 12 hours or two sessions monthly for 1 year as follows: • 1 hour live mentoring via phone* • 30 minutes post mentoring notes • 30 minutes pre mentoring notes review • 2 hours mentoring preparation • 1 hour live mentoring quality control of another mentor’s session • 1 hour equipment check prior to live tutoring session * Phone connect may be through Internet via Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) The same infrastructure used by the volunteer tutors and mentors will be utilized by professional tutors who will sell their services under the umbrella of the organization. A revenue sharing model will be established with one portion going to the professional tutor and the remainder going to the umbrella organization. The plan is to collaborate with organizations like: * The BreakThrough Collaborative (http://www.breakthroughcollaborative.org) * Strong American Schools (http://www.edin08.com) * Volunteer Match (http://www.volunteermatch.org)  Tue 19 of Jun, 2007   Wed 20 of Jun, 2007 [19:44 UTC]   0   289
